Lord Rahu: The Cosmic Illusionist

Rahu is a “Chhaya Graha” (Shadow Planet), representing the North Node of the Moon. He is the head of the demon Svarbhanu, who was severed by Lord Vishnu during the Churning of the Ocean. Rahu represents the insatiable worldly desires, the pursuit of power, and the unconventional path. He is the master of illusion (Maya) and the significator of sudden changes.

The Quest for the Material World

Rahu is always hungry, representing the part of our soul that wants to experience everything the material world has to offer. He is the force behind innovation, foreign travel, and technical breakthroughs. He is depicted as a severed head riding a lion or a chariot drawn by eight black horses.

Astrological Significances

  • Obsession & Ambition: Rahu shows where we are most likely to be obsessed or where we want to “break the rules.”
  • Innovation: He governs electronics, aviation, and advanced technology.
  • Foreign Influence: Rahu represents foreign cultures, unconventional relationships, and sudden windfalls.

Balancing the Shadow

An uncontrolled Rahu can lead to confusion and chaos. To balance Rahu, one should practice grounding techniques, maintain high moral standards, and worship Lord Shiva or Goddess Durga. Chanting the “Rahu Beej Mantra” and helping those with skin diseases or psychological issues are excellent remedies.
