Lord Brihaspati: The Guru of the Gods

Brihaspati Deva, also known as Guru or Jupiter, is the supreme preceptor of the Devas. He is the lord of prayers, the master of sacred speech, and the giver of divine wisdom. Brihaspati represents the principle of expansion, benevolence, and the search for the ultimate truth. He is the greatest benefic among the planets, and His glance is said to ward off a million evils.

The Light of Philosophy and Law

Brihaspati is the son of Sage Angirasa and Surupa. He is depicted as a majestic figure with a golden complexion, holding a lotus, a garland of beads, and a book of scriptures. He represents the “Akasha Tattva” (Ether), the space in which all wisdom resides. He is the lord of justice, the protector of the righteous, and the advisor to King Indra.

Significances in Life

  • Wisdom & Jnana: Guru represents higher education, spiritual growth, and the ability to find meaning in life.
  • Prosperity: He is the significator of wealth, children (Putra Karaka), and overall good fortune.
  • Guidance: Guru represents the teachers and mentors who illuminate our path.

The Path of Grace

To have a strong Guru in the chart is a sign of great “Purva Punya” (past life merits). Worshipping Lord Brihaspati or Lord Shiva on Thursdays brings divine protection and expansion in all areas of life. Chanting the “Guru Stotram” and respecting one’s elders are primary ways to invoke His grace.
