Five Elements

The Wu Xing (五行): Mastering the Five Elements of Feng Shui

The theory of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) is the fundamental engine powering all Chinese metaphysical systems. Every physical object, color, shape, compass direction, and organ in the human body corresponds to one of these five elemental frequencies.

The Three Elemental Cycles

  1. The Productive Cycle (Sheng): Water nourishes Wood, Wood feeds Fire, Fire creates Earth, Earth produces Metal, Metal condenses Water.
  2. The Destructive Cycle (Ke): Wood penetrates Earth, Earth dams Water, Water extinguishes Fire, Fire melts Metal, Metal chops Wood.
  3. The Weakening Cycle (Xie): Child element exhausts parent element to soothe imbalances cleanly.
